Project: Epcot Food and Wine Festival, Walt Disney World. Big client projects require big teams. Our design team’s work on a Disney Epcot promotional video helped pull together the fashion styling for the video cast.
Twelve years ago, DMC2 principal Dana McMahan founded the Workroom Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Now, each school year our team works with student designers and global clients to produce digital and physical installations. For the 2019 project, we partnered with PUMA to develop PUMA Play. DMC2’s creative direction led over 40 student artists to create digital designs that were translated to physical products, VR game stations, and custom sneakers. The full experience was installed in a 2500 square foot gallery where guests were immersed in a colorful PUMA world featuring every type of game.
Project: Rock and Relic Vintage Clothing. Although our team did not get the chance to work with an actual tiger, this composite shot for the online vintage clothing store, Rock and Relic, did test our imagination. We worked to bring the dress to life in this bold storyline of a woman with her own set of rules.
Project: Recipe Shots, TOPO Organic Spirits. Shooting cocktail recipes to feature on the TOPO Organic Spirits website and in distillery collateral material means ensuring classic components of the shot—the framing, focus and color—are powerful enough for any media application.
Project: Cooking with Spirit, A Boozy Cookbook Series from TOPO Organic Spirits. There was much more to just taking the shots for this cookbook series. The design team’s idea was to reinterpret Southern recipes from the 1950s, jazzing them up with the client’s spirits. Shooting them meant finding a bridge between old and new. Grey tones, a select-focus composition and a little “spilling of the beans” in the shot keeps it fun.
Project: Rock and Relic Vintage Clothing. This 1950’s dress by Mr. Mort was designed to go to work, so we needed a funky workplace set. But the dress wasn’t the only piece the viewer could purchase when this shoot went live. Everything was available, the dress, the antique fan, the lamp—even the $3 squeezy brain in our model’s determined hands. We composed the products for the shot and also built the 1000+ plus pencil curtain for the backdrop.
Project: Instagram Videos for Blossom Organic Spirits. Many of our client’s product shots include a video component. Utilizing a strong complementary color palette ensured that the gorgeous color of this cocktail would be the star of this short Instagram video.
Project: Cooking with Spirit, A Boozy Cookbook Series from TOPO Organic Spirits. Finding the right combination of textures and scale makes the photo come alive. Carefully choosing the right balance of color and age on antique props balances this shot of a classic Southern pie.
Project: Rock and Relic Vintage Clothing. Every dress sold on Rock and Relic is an authentic piece exemplifying its time period. The design team looks for photography inspiration in the music of the dress’s vintage, in this case it was Doris Day’s classic recording of Dream A Little Dream. The photo concept was developed using several different location shots merged together for a surreal effect.
Project: With A Twist Video Series, TOPO Organic Spirits. Filming a YouTube Series featuring a TOPO mixologist and a guest included building a permanent set and producing each shoot. Our team worked on every aspect: sourcing talent, building sets, video and still shooting. The video here is the promo for the series.
Project: Cooking with Spirit, A Boozy Cookbook Series from TOPO Organic Spirits. In cookbook development, it’s not enough just to showcase the final finished dessert or entree. Finding elegant ways to inspire readers as they get messy in the kitchen also plays a big role in bringing recipes to life. We shoot the elements so they are gracefully arranged, but have enough visual information to follow the story.
Project: Cooking with Spirit, A Boozy Cookbook Series from TOPO Organic Spirits. Saying the words Whiskey Glazed Bacon should be enough, no pictures required. To take a shot worthy of the swoon that the name inspires means bringing the killer ingredients up front as a feature. Select focus on the brown sugar, soon to be mixed with TOPO Eight Oak Whiskey and dipped onto bacon slices, ensures that the photo is as mouth-watering as the real thing.
Project: Accessory Product Shots for Rock and Relic. Pairing modern accessories with vintage clothing can be tricky. We spend a lot of time for this client aligning the styling of the jewelry shots with the graphic elements established in the clothing shoot. In this instance, the hero photo was full of stone and painted wood. Making sure they didn’t overpower the small accessories was key here.
